What's on this Thursday April 3 and Friday April 4
The Sound Lounge Feature

Dear Soundlounger,

We're not sure if we hold the key to unlock your imagination, or the net in which to capture your imagination, but if this week's shows don't set your life on fire with actual Live Music Excitement then we don't know what will! Truly! It's music, it's live, it's real life, it's Mabo, it's the vibe...

Dan Mangan arrives in The SoundLounge this Thursday April 3, after performing to very happy crowds at this year's BluesFest in Byron Bay. Anecdotal evidence from other SoundLoungers tells us that this young lad from Canada is 'Really Good', and that his warm style more than matched that of other more seasoned performers. It's nice to think that he has something to offer a festival crowd, and it's nice to know he's stopping by The SoundLounge before heading off. Grab your tickets for Thursday's show!

stringmansassy are embarking on their last-ever tour, and perform for the final time in The SoundLounge this Friday April 4. As many of you will remember, stringmansassy performed at the SoundLounge Launch in February 2004 (with Gorgonzola, remember?!) and have played a bunch of wonderful shows in Currumbin over the years. Times are a-changing however, and this Friday's show brings to an end the beautiful stringmansassy-SoundLounge relationship. Grab your tickets for Friday's show!

LBN (Late Breaking News): Our apologies, but the British India Show for this Sunday has been cancelled. Unfortunately due to factors beyond our control, (unforseen circumstances, illness etc) shows are cancelled from time-to-time - strange but true. If you were planning to come Sunday to the British India Show - don't as we won't be here, but we would love to see you Thursday or Friday.

With Easter out of the way, it's time to make time for live music in your life!

Tickets are available at thesoundlounge.com.au

In other news, Kate Miller-Heidke, Harry Manx, The Audreys and The Panics are all selling fast. Now where did I put my credit card...

Enjoy your week!

Warm regards,
Ben, Rob and

Dan Mangan (CANADA)

Dan Mangan (CANADA)

At the tender age of seven, Dan Mangan's first goal was to memorize and recite Abbey Road's side 'B'. At 17, it was to record his first EP. Now, at 24, it's to meander into the stereo and hometown of music lovers worldwide. Plan of attack? The release his debut album 'Postcards & Daydreaming' in 2007 and tour – a lot. With two recently completed tours of the US and UK – including a feature in the Brit-tastemaker magazine, NME – and let's not forget the umpteen festival performances, three west coast tours and clutches of east coast dates, one could definitely say he's off to a good start.

Tying together the roots of acoustic folk and subtle symphonic pop, Postcards & Daydreaming is unabashedly mellow. However, it's Mangan's powerful, weather-beaten vocals that hint at something epic lurking in the undertones. Influenced both by songsmiths of old (Nick Drake, Woody Guthrie) and sonic innovators of late (Neutral Milk Hotel, Sigur Ros). Mangan's "old soul" is made obvious through his lyrical ruminations on both the harmful capabilities and intrinsic beauty of human foibles. Think Kurt Vonnegut with a gravelly sweet singing voice.

Support for this show is yet to be advised.

stringmansassy

stringmansassy

After almost 12 years as one of Australia's finest performance duos, stringmansassy will this year, embark upon their final Australian Tour. Their upcoming performance at The SoundLounge will signal the end of an era for these much loved musicians, who have touched the lives of many during their years touring throughout Australia and the world. For their fans, this farewell will be a concert not to be missed. For those new to the world of stringmansassy, it will be the final Gold Coast opportunity to experience some of the enthralling magic of this remarkable duo.

stringmansassy's music is synonymous with the sublime. Their live performances are spellbinding and the intimacy and passion of their music translates across all venues. They are innovators and spontaneous performers, creating "a world of their own, in which 'passion' flows like an electric current and each nuance of music is played with conviction and belief" (Andrew MacLean : music-culture.org.au 10/11/2003). As a performance duo, stringmansassy have always transcended the realm of guitar and voice and created an astonishing musical atmosphere with their small ensemble and for the past 12 years they have gained a devoted following for their unique fusion of folk and jazz.

To coincide with this farewell tour, stringmansassy will be releasing a CD of 'Live' recordings collated from some of their memorable concerts over the past seven years, available from The SoundLounge on April 4th.

The "poetic, original songs" and "extraordinarily brave vocal style" (Lonnie Martin, Folk Rag) of Stephanie Barros Lees have endeared her to Brisbane audiences through her bands moot (brazilian-influenced folk-jazz) and maudlin (ambient-industrial trip-hop).

Emerging from her years of experience is her solo project pear and the awkward orchestra, a mini-orchestra of diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements supporting an emotive and powerful voice and gritty, personal songs.

pear is currently planning a Brisbane to Melbourne tour, commencing April 4 with Stringmansassy at the Soundlounge, Gold Coast. EP CD Russian Doll - 6 tracks of evocative contemporary folk-jazz - will be available at performances, with a limited number featuring handmade covers by the artist herself.
